Alby Matheson will be no stranger to Limerick’s Thomond Park

MUNSTER’S new ‘temporary’ signing, Alby Mathewson, will have happy memories of Thomond Park. He played there twice, winning his first New Zealand cap when the province marked the opening of their recently developed stadium in 2008, returning again a decade later. The All Blacks won the 2008 game 18-16, a late try from Joe Rokoko upsetting what would have been another historic victory for Munster.
Signed as cover for Conor Murray (neck injury), 32-year-old Alby is being signed on a short-term contract, subject to work permit, and won five caps with New Zealand. Last season the scrum-half played for Toulon at the Limerick venue in the quarter final of the Champions Cup.
