Friday’s derby game highlight of fixtures for the week-end ahead

ANY meeting of local rivals Garryowen and Young Munster is sure to create a stir in this region and when the glory of advancing in the Munster Senior Cup is on offer, then the stakes move up a few more notches.
Dooradoyle is the venue next Friday night, 7.30, with the quarter-final of the Bank of Ireland sponsored competition likely to attract a good attendance. Young Munster have not had much match practice so far this season but Garryowen’s impressive Charity Cup win over Shannon in Coonagh last month will not have gone unnoticed.
The Parish boys are also in Munster Cup action, they Travel to Irish Independent Park on Saturday to take on Sunday’s Well while in the two other quarter-final games, Cashel play Highfield and Cork Constitution entertain UCC in Temple Hill.
In the junior ranks, the final of the McInerney Cup always produces a cracking contest and the meeting of Garryowen and Richmond on the back pitch of Thomond Park this Saturday, 2.30, promises to be a tense encounter. Richmond’s first team are in action on Sunday. They travel to Newcastle West with a place in the final of the Transfield Cup up for grabs while there are a number of games listed in the Munster Seconds League qualifiers.
Richmond and Shannon will both be in action in the Munster Women’s League.
