Ireland under 20s save their blushes with narrow play-off victory

A LATE try by left winger Tommy O’Brien helped Ireland under 20s to a narrow victory over Japan this morning. The victory keeps Ireland in the World Rugby Under 20 Championship for 2019. Played in Stade de Mediterannee in Beziers, France this 11th/12th Place Play-Off game produced a very competitive encounter with Japan pegging the Irish back to within a single point at 34-33 with four minutes remaining.
O’Brien’s late try gave Ireland some relief at 39-33 but they had to show their defensive qualities as Japan attacked in a tense final attack.
