Ireland’s third ranking a World Cup boost

THIRD highest rankings in world rugby. Nice place to be as we head into the final straight before World Cup 2015 takes over the sporting media headlines.
Ireland hold that coveted position at present with New Zealand top of the ratings, followed by South Africa. England are in fourth, Australia fifth followed by Wales, France, Argentina, Samoa and Fiji to make up the top ten.
Scotland are in 11th position, the only Six Nations side outside the top ten, while Japan, Tonga and Georgia fill the next three in the rankings. One of Ireland’s opponents in the World Cup pool, Italy, are ranked in an embarrassing 15th, followed by the USA on 16th and Ireland’s other outsiders in the pool, Romania(17th) and Canada, on rung number 18 followed by Uruguay and Spain, 19th and 20th respectively.
Watching the All Blacks beat Argentina last week-end, you get the message that they are not going to relinquish their crown with one heck of a fight. They will be concerned by the two tries scored by Argentina, both straight out of the Munster plan book, lineout close to the line, patient maul and over we go, but now that they have seen the success of this ploy close-up on their own patch, they will certainly take measures to avoid a repeat.
Pool A at Rugby World Cup 2015 contains four of the top 10 ranked teams in the world, Fiji joining England, Australia and Wales while Ireland’s opponents in their opening pool game in Wales on Saturday, September 19, Canada are now ranked below RWC 2015 Pool D rivals Romania after the defeat to Japan.
