THIS Magners League grand final at a packed Thomond Park this Saturday was littered with errors and sloppy play.
In the first half, Doug Howlett scored his eighth try of the Magner's League, while a skillful conversion by O'Gara placed Munster firmly in the lead after 11 minutes. A penalty by Sexton gave Leinster 3 points 27 minutes into the game. By half-time, the score remained unchanged, with Munster keeping the lead by a fraction.
Leinster began the second half in attack mode. Sexton drove hard in the Munster half, but was tackled before he could make the try. A penalty was awarded against Munster due to an infringement by Donncha O'Callaghan, which Sexton kicked to give Leinster another three points. After 59 minutes, Sexton kicked Leinster ahead 9 points to 7 . A quick penalty by O'Gara allowed Keith Earls to powerfully execute a second try for Munster after 65 minutes. O'Gara, however, failed to kick the conversion.
A heroic run by Howlett with 5 minutes on the clock almost granted Munster with a much needed try.
Nigel Owens awarded a penalty try to the home side with just two minutes left to play. O'Gara kicked the conversion with ease, leaving a 10 point gap between the two rivals.
