YESTERDAY'S emphatic win over Castletroy College in Dooradoyle yesterday sends out a clear message that St Munchin's College will make a determined bid to win the Avonmore Senior Cup this season.
The Corbally school will now have a home game against the losers of today's game between C.B.C. and Ard Scoil Ris in the next round.
Castletroy may have got first blood yesterday, a penalty by Sean Moran but it proved to be a false dawn as Munchin's turned on the style with tries from Matthew McSweeney and full back James Clancy for a 10-3 half time lead.
It was all St Munchin’s in the second half with their intense pre-season training paying dividends and winger Edward O’Keeffe and center Dan Goggin added further tries. Ben Nugent kicked a conversion.
Earlier this season 'Munchin's head coach John Broderick expressed his hope that this could yet be their year: "We have a good backline this year, which is unusual for St Munchin's, and certainly the lads have put in an amount of pre-season work. Getting it right on the day is the problem but if we can produce our best form we should be there or thereabouts."
There is a lot of rugby to be played before the final on St Patrick's Day but if St Munchin's find themselves in that decider, they will be hard to stop.
