Tragic death of Glenstal's rugby administrator

1st Feb - 2012

THE Munster schools community has been deeply saddened by the untimely death of Brother Matthew Corkery of Glenstal Abbey at the young age of 41.

It was just before Christmas when I last made contact with Brother Matthew as I was preparing an extensive preview of the Munster Schools Senior Cup for a national newspaper.

Br Matthew was very involved in schools rugby at Glenstal Abbey School and this season he was appointed co-ordinator of the Bowen Shield and McCarthy Cup school competitions by the Munster Schools Committee.

This website and the extended Limerick rugby community extend their deepest sympathy to his parents, sisters and brother, the Abbot and monastic community of Glenstal and a wide circle of family and friends.

Br. Matthew’s remains will be reposing in the monastery from 3.30pm to 5.00pm on Thursday, 2nd February, followed by removal to the Abbey Church. Funeral Mass on Friday 3rd February at 11.30am followed by burial in the Abbey Cemetery.

May he rest in peace.
