DESPITE a brave effort late in the game, Garryowen just failed in their attempt to overcome Cashel in an entertaining Gleeson League play-off in Kilballyowen, Bruff this Sunday afternoon.
It has been a good season so far for Cashel and on the overall play, they just about deserved their victory.
The Tipperary side led 10-9 at the break and not alone did they succeed in holding the light blues scoreless in the second period, but they added a try that gave them a six point cushion going into the last quarter.
Garryowen got some good possession from a hard-working pack but despite creating a few chances, they failed to get the try and conversion that would have given them a late victory.
Garryowen's scores came from two penalties and a drop goal by Robert Sheehan.
The Munster 2nds League play-off between Bruff and Highfield was called off.
Highfield agreed to move the venue from Fermoy to Bruff earlier in the week but then requested a cancellation.
In the Munster Junior Plate, St Mary's were beaten 19-12 by division one side Thurles at the Corbally venue.
Thurles led 5-3 at the break but their three tries (one a penalty try) and two conversions proved too much for the 'Saints' for whom Barry Gibbons kicked four penalties.
St Mary's must await the result of Wednesday's Carrick-on-Suir game before they know their opponents for the division three play-offs on Easter Monday.
