Bonus point win as Munster prove too strong for the Southern Kings in Cork

Guinness PRO12 Championship
Munster 43, Southern Kings 0

IT was a case of ‘job done’ for Munster tonight in Irish Independent Park, running in seven tries and ensuring their continuation at the top of Conference A of this competition. In fairness to the South Africans they put up a decent shift in the opening half and conceded their second try close to the break when they had a player in the sin bin. An early knee injury to Chris Farrell saw him replaced by Dan Goggin in the first half while Jean Kleyn also hobbled off late in the game.

The second half was a different story with Darren Sweetnam and Billy Holland scoring tries to reap the bonus point and they went on to run riot in the closing stages with a brace of tries from Jean Kleyn and Rory Scannell getting a seventh as well as adding the conversions.

With a 12-0 interval lead, Munster were already on target for that bonus point victory. The opening 40 minutes was tight enough with the home side getting their second try a few minutes before the break. A yellow card for the Kings Ruan Lerm for an offence at a ruck gifted Munster a penalty and after a lineout maul, Andrew Conway got over. Neil Cronin scored the reds’ first try after just 14 minutes, the result of a similar lineout maul. Rory Scannell converted the first try but his second effort came back off an upright. As the second half progressed the difference between the sides became more obvious and the Kings finished with 13 players on the field.
