Disappointment as Bohs concede cup fixture

THE new local rugby season failed to get off the ground tonight when UL Bohemian conceded their first round Limerick Charity Cup tie to their opponents Young Munster (pictured). The game was to be played at Tom Clifford Park.
According to a spokesman for Bohs, they had a problem fielding props as well as injuries to other players and with the current crowded fixture schedule facing all senior clubs, they decided to give a walk-over rather than apply for a re-fixture.
Understandably, Young Munster are not overjoyed with the cancellation and their spokesman said that his senior squad had put in a lot of preparation for what was to be the opening game of the 2016/17 season.
The cancellation comes less than 24 hours after UL Bohemian laid out their plans for this season, highlighting the new training facilities now at their disposal at UL.
Maybe a compromise, where uncontested scrums were agreed, could have solved the issue but there is certainly disappointment locally that the fixture, on what was an evening perfectly suited for rugby competition, did not take place
