Four local clubs in week-end Junior Cup action
- Updated: 14/03/2023

THIS Sunday the focus is on the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup competitions with four local sides in action. Abbeyfeale are at home to Kilfeacle, Richmond play Kanturk and Shannon will play Newcastle West.
The latter fixture is sure to be the match of the day. Shannon will be fancied but if Newcastle West can field a stronger side then recent games they could well run the Coonagh side close. Abbeyfeale are the surprise team to reach this stage of the competition and have brought back memories of their achievements in 1964 and 1966 when they lifted the trophy. Kilfeacle have not had a good season in the league so this pairing is evenly matched with the home side hoping to shade it.
League champions Richmond now have the hunger to add a cup success to their league triumph and the Canal Bank is sure to be well populated for this cup tie. Traditionally in Limerick, the Munster Junior Cup attracts sizeable attendances. The crowd that packed into the Old Crescent ground for last season’s decider between Young Munster and Thomond, indicates that support remains at this level of rugby. Kanturk have done very well to get to this stage but you would have to tip Richmond to advance.
Kick-off 2.30pm unless otherwise stated.
