Holders St Mary’s advance in Transfield Cup

THE junior season got underway over the past few days and in the opening rounds of the Transfield Cup there were wins today for St Mary’s and Shannon.
The Saints welcomed Bruff to Grove Island and despite missing 13 of the matchday squad that won the trophy last season, recorded a merited 23-8 victory. On the scoresheet for St Mary’s were man of the match Sean Lyons who scored a try, two penalties and a conversion, Brian Purcell and Paudie McMahon a try each The Saints will now meet Shannon in the next round.
The Coonagh boys also won today, getting the better of St Senan’s while tomorrow night in the Canal Bank, Richmond play Young Munster in the same competition.
