Late try spoils Garryowen’s 39th title hopes

Cork Constitution 26, Garryowen 22:
IN a typically hard-fought final of the Munster Senior Cup at Irish Independent Park in Cork yesterday, Constitution lifted the trophy with a late try from winger Rob Jermyn with 12 minutes to go.
It was a cruel defeat for the Limerick side who had most of the play in this ding-dong struggle. Garryowen out-half Jamie Gavin kicking the light blues in front and Quinlan levelled it for the home side,
With a player from each side in the bin, a second Gavin penalty on 28 minutes put Garryowen back in front and three minutes before the break, Josh Hrstich got over near the corner and Gavin’s conversion put the Dooradoyle boys 13-3 in front. A second penalty from Quinlan kept Con in touch at 13-6 and two further penalties from the outhalf saw the lead reduced to a single point but Jamie Gavin’s brace of penalty kicks restored Garryowen’s seven point advantage, Speedy winger Jermyn got a try in the corner and Quinlan’s difficult conversion saw the sides locked together going into the final minutes. Gavin put his side in front again with another penalty but the Cork side snatched victory when winger Jermyn again found space to race in for the winning score. Quinlan landed the conversion.
