(Action from the Old Crescent Munster Junior Cup final against Nenagh last Sunday)
Newcastle West 23, Thomond 53: It is going to be a very good side to keep pace with Thomond in the Munster Junior Cup this season. The Soda Cakes are on the march and their try tally must be tipping record figures as the season progresses. Newcastle West put up a brave show but they were just not strong enough to match their opponents’ fluent play.
On the scoresheet for Thomond were tries by Jason Kiely, Evan Maher and Jamie McGarry in the first half while in the second half, there were tries from Evan Maher, Jamie McGarry and Colin Slater. As usual Jason Kiely showed his kicking skills to add the other points.
Newcastle West’s scores came from Shane Airey a try, a conversion and three penalties in the first half and in the second half Cian Mulcahy scord a try and Shane Airey converted.
In other Munster Junior Cup games Richmond went down to Kilfeacle 24-27 and Garryowen got the better of Cashel by 14-28.
