TODAY was not a good one for the Cork teams in the Seat Munster Schools Senior Cup with both PBC and CBC losing out on home advantage in the next phase of the competition.

Crescent Comprehensive caused an upset to snatch the third home game place with a dramatic win over favourites Rockwell while Ard Scoil Ris and Glenstal Abbey will meet tomorrow following which the open draw for the quarter-finals will take place in Rosbrien, around 4.30pm.

St Munchin’s College travelled to Cork today and by virtue of scoring the first try of the game, got the better of Presentation Brothers College, the sides finishing level at 8-8, each scoring a penalty and an unconverted try.

Hotly fancied Crescent Comprehensive College had an impressive 39-0 win over Christian Brothers Cork while yesterday, Castletroy College made a mockery of those who prodicted a comfortable win by Rockwell, by beating the Tipperary side 13-20. A second half try by Johnny Fox turned the game on its head and Castletroy’s other scores came from a try by Conor Humphreys and two penalties and two conversions by Conor Linehan. The Rockwell scorers were Luke Hickey a try and a conversion and two penalties by Aidan Moynihan.

The open draw will now see Limerick sides St Munchin’s, Castletroy, Crescent and either Ard Scoil or Glenstal seeded. Most will be hoping to avoid Rockwell who, no doubt, will be hurt by their defeat in the preliminary round.
