MUNSTER were very far from home today but they put up a sizzling performance before a small attendance in South Africa. Their 31-20 vctory over the Southern Kings ensured a second winning bonus point on the trot in the Guinness PRO14 Championship.
Played before a sparse attendance in Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, JJ Hanrahan was in sparkling form and contributed 11 points while Munster’s opening try was scored by Mike Haley which helped them to a 10-6 interval lead. The opening stages of the second half saw a revival from the Kings and it was 11-10 to the home side soon after the restart. Munster re-grouped and a try by Alby Mathewson, followed by another from Fineen Wycherley set up a final assault from the Irish province to secure the bonus point try, scored by Arno Botha.
Next Saturday they will go into their second game in South Africa when they take on the Cheetahs (kick-off 5.15) in the same competition.
