Munster’s win over London Irish a welcome boost

By the Editor

Munster 17, London Irish 5:

WATERFORD got the thumbs-up from Munster Rugby tonight when they packed out RTC for Munster’s second and last pre-season skirmish before the real business of Guinness Pro 12 gets underway next week.

The reds put up a decent show, beating the Londoners in competent fashion by a margin of 12 points and make amends for their poor performance in Gloucester last week-end.

The home side led 14-5 coming up to half time and Irish’s first half try was all they could muster up on this visit to the province.

Garryowen wing Ronan O’Mahony continued his wonderful scoring record with Munster since his promotion to senior ranks and got the first five pointer for the home side, Johnny Holland landing the conversion. Replacement Duncan Williams scored the second try and his performance will not have gone unnoticed on new coach Anthony Foley.

Next Friday, Munster open their Pro 12 campaign with a home game against Edinburgh in Thomond Park. Kick-off is 7.35 and tickets are available from the usual sources.
