Newcastle West will meet Dromore in the AIL Junior Cup

IT’S the peak of the Silly Season and this website’s ‘head poncho’ is soaking up the sun in Ibiza. It’s still not far enough to get away from the responsibilities of which is now well into its 11th year and the first salvos of season 2019/20 have already been fired.
The IRFU have announced the first round draw for the AIL Junior Cup 2019-20 which will see 16 clubs face off on the 26th October and Limerick junior club Newcastle West are included in this competition where they will meet Dromore on October 26th.
The ‘West’ are full of a anticipation going into this latest phase of their history. Ger Earls returns as head coach with Aidan O’Halloran remaining as assistant and Declan Edwards, who had a most successful season filling in for Ger Earls being during the last campaign, handed a new role with the club as Development Officer.
Exciting times ahead indeed for this Limerick club.
Defending champions for the past three seasons Ashbourne kick off their title defence at home to Creggs while 2018 beaten finalists Kilfeacle host Wicklow. 2011 champions Crosshaven travel to Instonians who contested the 2016 final but lost out to Enniscorthy.
Monivea have made it to the final on two occasions losing out to Tullamore in 2012 and to Crosshaven in 2011. The Galway club start this season’s campaign away to Kilkenny.
