No surprises as Crescent and Ardscoil advance

By Alastair Cooke

FAVOURTES Crescent College Comprehensive and Ardscoil Ris qualified for the quarter finals of this season’s Munster Schools Senior Cup today. The games were transferred from Thomond Park to the G4 surface at the University of Limerick.
Crescent proved too good for a gallant Glenstal Abbey who had been in touch at the break, trailing by just five points, 15-10. Dan Hurley kicked the opening three points for the winners but the Murroe boys levelled it with a Ben Healy penalty. Calvin Nash then got a try for Crescent but their joy was short-lived with Jack Stafford going over for the ‘Glen’ try converted by out-half Ben Healy.
A Dan Hurley try and conversion on the stroke of the short whistle saw the Dooradoyle school lead at the break.
Crescent showed their class in the second half, running in tries from replacements Anson Thai and Jack Fehilly, wing-forward Niall Mulcahy and right wing Conor Phillips to give their side a comprehensive 39-17 victory.
