Second half performance sees Munster through against impressive Ospreys

Guinness PRO14 Championship:
Munster 28, Ospreys 12
THEY had to produce a big second half but Munster succeeded in reaping a bonus point victory over a very good Ospreys side tonight in Irish Independent Park in Cork. There was just one point between the sides at half time with the visitors dominating most of the play. A nice move down the right flank that involved Mike Haley, Dan Goggin and James Cronin saw the latter touch down with Tyler Bleyendaal adding the conversion.
The Welsh side were well prepared for this clash and a brace of penalties from their out-half Luke Price on 31 and 39 minutes sent the teams in with Munster in front 7-6. The second half saw the home side cut out their earlier errors and Rhys Marshall got over for his side’s second try, converted by Bleyendaal, to put his side 14-6 to the good. Luke Price kicked a third penalty for the Ospreys on 47 minutes but two minutes later a superb individual try by Mike Haley, converted again by Bleyendaal, gave the home side a 21-9 lead with 49 minutes played.
Ten minutes later it was 21-12 with Luke Price adding his fourth success from the tee but from there to the finish it was Munster who benefitted most from emptying the bench. Craig Casey looked very sharp when he replaced Neil Cronin and after they had attacked from a lineout with a minute to go, Arno Botha got Munster’s fourth try which JJ Hanrahan converted.
It was not the perfect performance from the Reds, the amount of errors and poor decisions taken in the first 40 minutes were enough to fill the note books of the on-looking coaches, but the fact that they achieved their aim with these league five points will provide less grief when they analyse this performance next Monday.
