Shannon RFC mourn the loss of stalwart Laura O’Donovan

THE death has taken place of Laura O’Donovan, mother of Munster Rugby team manager Niall. A prominent member of the Shannon RFC ladies committee and an honorary vice president, Mrs O’Donovan’s passing has resulted in deep sympathy being expressed by all in Shannon RFC.
She was a fantastic servant to the club and a friendly face to all. She is of a golden generation who’s work ethic and determination made Shannon the success it is today. She will be sorely missed. The O’Donovan family is steeped in Shannon history with Laura’s husband Jim part of the 1960’s cup winning team, her son Niall is another Shannon stalwart who has had a successful rugby career at club, provincial and national level. Niall is current Munster Rugby Team Manager. Laura’s grandson Colin Slater is a current Shannon Senior player. Our condolences to the O’Donovan family and extended family at this time.

In compliance with current guidelines and with the support of her family, the funeral will be for immediate family only. To honour the wonderful care she received at Milford Hospice her family would like donations to Milford in lieu of flowers. Laura’s cortege will pass through Athlunkard Street on Friday, May 22nd at 1:45pm for neighbours and friends. Please adhere to social distancing. Messages of sympathy may be expressed through the rip.ie condolences section (below), through the death notices section of our website: www.griffinfunerals.com or by post to Griffin’s Funeral Home.
