UL Bohemians and Old Crescent advance in Munster Senior Cup

Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Cup
Results today: Cashel 25, Clonmel 13; Dolphin 24, Old Crescent 31; Kilfeacle 22, Bruff 17; Sunday’s Well 27, Midleton 15; UL Bohemian 31, Nenagh Ormond 12.
OLD Crescent and UL Bohemian advanced today as the senior rugby season returned to action but Bruff failed to reach the next round despite a very good performance against Kilfeacle and District.
Bohs were in cracking form in their game on the 4G surface of UL and tries from Ryan McNamara, Colin Madden and Steve Benjamin with Colm Madden adding a penalty and the conversions, saw them safely through to the next round. Old Crescent’s trip to Cork proved worthwhile and they were full value for their win over Dolphin. The home side got off to a flying start and were 7-0 up soon after the kick-off. Crescent replied with a try from club captain Kevin Doyle converted by Ronan McKenna, who was later sin-binned, to level the tie. Dolphin then got a few scores in succession to race into a 17-7 lead before a try by Eoin Murphy, converted by McKenna, cut the lead to three points.
An unconverted Ronan McKenna try saw the Rosbrien side go into a 19-17 lead coming into the final quarter and further tries from Cathal O’Reilly and Eoin Murphy sealed victory for Old Crescent.
Bruff put up a good show in Kilfeacle with Cormac Ryan and Jack O’Grady getting on the Kilballyowen boys’ scoresheet.

The junior Transfield Cup fixtures posted by the Branch were inadvertently down for Saturday instead of Sunday and did not take place today. The Newcastle West v Abbeyfeale game was called off due to a bereavement and St Mary’s and Ennis have put their fixture back to next week.
