Junior rugby fixtures hit by the bad weather

THE bad forecast for last week-end resulted in the cancellation of two fixtures involving local clubs. In the Junior League division one, the Bandon v Newcastle West game and the Sunday’s Well v Richmond clash were affected by storm forecasts. The meeting of St Mary’s and Thomond went ahead at the Grove Island venue with the ‘Soda Cakes’ staging a come-back in the second half to secure a victory.
St Mary’s 15, Thomond 26: This was a cracker of a game played before a large attendance, The Saints led 10-7 at the short whistle thanks to a try by Adam Guerin who also kicked a conversion and a penalty,
Thomond responded with a try from Jamie McGarry which was also converted. The Saints scored a try in the second half but it was Thomond who took the points with two tries from Evan Maher and another from Aidan Quinlivan. Jason Kiely was accurate with the kicking duties.
