Munster Rugby has been recognised as a global leader in sustainable sport, receiving the Sport Positive Awards 2025 – Report of the Year.
One of just 12 winners worldwide, this accolade celebrates the club’s pioneering work in climate action and sustainability.
The award was presented in London on October 7th alongside the Sport Positive Summit 2025, a leading global event bringing together sport industry leaders in collaboration with the UNFCCC and the International Olympic Committee.
This recognition highlights Munster Rugby’s commitment to driving climate action, resilience, and positive impact within sport and across its communities, reflecting the club’s leadership on a global stage.
Munster Rugby Chief Operating Officer, Philip Quinn said:
“This award is the result of a huge amount of work on climate action by our in-house team and partnerships over several seasons, and recognition of that effort on a global stage.
“It’s landed well internationally, bringing Munster Rugby to new audiences and raising our status as leaders in world sport. We know we must first lead by example – we can’t expect others to come with us unless we’re willing to take the first steps ourselves. It’s early days in an ongoing journey, and at Munster we focus on resilience and progress over perfection. This award shows the power of our voice and how we can use our influence for good.”
Munster Rugby Sustainability Lead, Laura Lahiff said:
“Climate action can feel distant, but for us it’s about people, pride and place – the same things that make Munster Rugby what it is. This report has resonated widely because people connected with Munster’s storyline: our resilience, courage and willingness to take things on and learn as we go.
“We’re telling this story in a human, honest, engaging way, using rugby language and highlighting the communities that shape us. We can’t wait to keep bringing it to life with our supporters and communities, and most importantly, to listen to what matters to them.”
