Ireland 46 Australia 19:
The atmosphere in the Aviva was electric tonight before the match, but the big attendance were uneasy in the second half as Ireland struggled to hold on to a slender five point lead. After just six minutes the home side laid down their intentions with Mack Hansen scoring the first of his hat-trick of tries. Sam Prendergast converted . Hansen found another gap in the Australia defence as the Irish rampage continued but Australia replied wth a try from left winger Len Ikitau touched down with the conversion by James O’Connor making it 14-7. Hansen scored his third try with 28 minutes played and Fraser McReight got over for a second try, converted by James O’Connor kicking the conversion as the sides went in with the scoreboard reading Ireland 19, Australia 14.
Ireland needed to put an early score on the board as the second half kicked-off and a drop goal by Prendergast increasd the lead to 22-14 after 56 minutes. As the errors mounted up by the visitors, Jack Crowley popped over a penalty to bring the score to 25-14. Ireland finished in style with tries from Caelan Doris, Ryan Baird and a final touchdown by Robbie Henshaw and the kicking of Jack Crowley from the kicking tee, and the smile had returned to coach Andy Farrell.
Next up is a meeting with South Africa next Saturday and on tonight’s showing from Ireland we can expect a cracking confrontation.
