Transfield Cup: Newcastle West 36, Thomond 21: In a hard-fought game on Sunday Newcastle West got the better of Thomond RFC to register a deserved victory. Sean Murphy scored two tries for the home side in the first half and Andrew Mortel also touched down with Shane Airey kicking two conversions and a penalt y22-15
The second half saw Sean Murphy score his hat-trick try and Jack Grimes added to the home score with Shane Airey kicking two conversions to give the ‘West’ a welcome win.
Referee George Clancy called off the game early in the second due to three injuries to the Thomond Team.
