First Nations and Pasifika XV make the Lions sweat
- Updated: 22/07/2025

First Nations and Pasifika 19, Lions 24
When the Lions went 14-0 up in the opening stagges of today’s clash, it looked as if this was to be an easy victory. By half time it was a different story with the Australians taking advantage of a gift past from Owen Farrell that fell into the hands of Filipo Daugunu and the winger had a clear run to the line. Kurtley Beale added the extras and it was ‘match on’. The Lions started well with a brace of tries from Jamie Osborne, both converted, but it was 14-14 at the break with Tristom Reillyi and Seru Uru levelling the game with well-worked tries.
The secod half saw the Lions dominate possession and another Jamie Osborne touchdown increased their lead to 14-19. They kept the pressure on and were awarded when Duhan van der Merwe scampered over unopposed . Both conversions were missed and the Lions could have paid the price when a try by Lukhan Salakaia-Loto was converted to reduce the lead to 19-24. The visitors had to sweat in the dying minutes but they held firm to maintain the tourists’ unbeaten run which will be a boost for next Saturday’s second test.
