Great win for Garryowen but Shannon drop down

NINE times winners Shannon will have to regroup over the off-season after dropping to AIL 1B yesterday. The 46-8 defeat by Old Belvedere tells its own story and major changes within the senior ranks are likely to begin within a short time if the Parish side are to bounce back to the top level of Irish rugby.
Shannon started with two bonus point victories in 1A this season but if their fans thought that they could sit back and enjoy a good campaign and avoid the drop, they were severely disappointed.
In Dublin, “Hurrah for Garryowen” was lifting the rafters of the Old Wesley dressing rooms as the light blues celebrated a shock win on the all-weather pitch of the home side. They will now have home advantage next Saturday when they take on Old Belvedere. Garryowen scorers yesterday were two tries by Clein and one try each from McNulty, Delaney and Wood. Langan and Jack Oliver landed conversions.
AIL 1A now beckons for the Dooradoyle boys. Some would say ‘that is where they belong!”
