Emirates Lions 13, Munster 33:
THERE is no stopping Munster since the start of this year and they made it two bonus point victories in succession on South African in Emirates Airline Park, Johannesburg today with another brilliant dislplay of rugby. Similar to last season, Graham Rountree’s title holders are showing their best post Christmas form in the URC. The Reds got off to a good start with three Jack Crowley penalties putting them 9-0 ahead but they had to show good defensive qualities to withstand Lions’ pressure from there to the second quarter. The home side reduced the lead after 27 minutes, Jordan Hendrikse kicking a penalty, but that spurred Munster forward and Jack O’Donoghue got in for a well-taken try, Crowley converting. Hendrikse kicked a penalty for the Lions but just before the break Munster were awarded a penalty try, Marius Louw was shown yellow.
The first score of the second half was going to be crucial and it went to Munster, Shane Daly getting in near the corner flag. The Lions replied with PJ Botha scoring a try and Hendrikse converted but it was Munster who celebrated at the final whistle with relacement Gavin Coombes touching down for the bonnus point try after some good approach work.
