Local clubs in action in league and cup competitions

THREE local teams were in action over the week-end with wins for Thomond and Richmond while Newcastle West lost at home to Kilfeacle.

Clonakilty 24, Thomond 28: Thomond had to dig deep to get this win but they showed their worth when they scored late to carve out a victory, It was 7-7 at thebreak, Shane Kelly getting and ]ason Kiely adding the extras for the Sodacakes. A Jamie McGarry try, converted by Jason Kiely and a try by Jason Kiely who converted his own score, eased Thomond over the finish.

Richmond 16, Mallow 13: The Cork side put up a brave fight but a late score from Jack O’Hanlon, converted by Brian Mullins deprived Mallow of a significant result. This was a tight game with the score 8-8 at the break but two penalties by Brian Mullins proved crucial to the result.

Newcastle West 8, Kilfeacle 27: In the Challenge Cup Newcastle West were well in the game lup to the final stages when Kilfeacle nabbed a brace of tries. It was 8-13 at the break with the ‘West’ scores coming from Jack Corkerry a try and Andrew Mortell kicking a penalty. With the home side tiring, Kilfeacle advanced in this competition.
