Munster disappoint as Leinster are crowned champions

THEY scored first but Munster could not get the better of arch rivals Leinster in today’s final of the Vodaphone Women’s Interprovincial final today in Belfast.
The score was a magnificent effort by UL Bohemian winger Alana McInerney who left a number of blue jersies in the chase to sclre under the posts and out-half Kate Flannery added the conversion. after 12 minutes. Munster could have been further ahead but Leinster deprived them of a try when they turned the ball over inches from the try linein the sixth minute.
Leah Tarpey levelled it when she broke clear to touch down at the other end and Nikki Caughey tapped over the easy conversion. Munster appeared to become a bit ragged when they lost Jane Clohessy with an injury and Leinster went ahead when Caughey kicked a penalty to make it 7-10. Worse was to come for Munster when Aoife Wafer crashed over and Caughey converted to leave Leinster leading 7-17 at the break.
Dorothy Wall seemed to have crossed for Munster’s second try but it was ruled out by the TMO and Dannah O’Brien extended Leinster’s lead after 55 minutes with a penalty. Tarpey got her second try of the game just two minutes later when Aoife Dalton broke through, the pass went to Tarpey who put 20 points between the sides with as many minutes remaining after O’Brien’s conversion. Munster battled bravely in the final 20 minutes but couldn’t get over for a second try which their performance deserved.
