Reports of today’s AIL and All-Ireland Cup fixtures

ALL our AIL teams were in action with Young Munsters beating Lansdowne in 1A in Tom Clifford Park 36-21 and Garryowen losing away to Ballinahinch 33-7. In 1B Shannon bounced back with a good result against Dublin University, 20-5 and in 2A Old Crescent had a 43-12 victory over visitors Buccaneers.
In 2A UL Bohemians found their form and ran out 26-24 at home to Wanderers while Bruff suffered another defeat, this time at home to Enniscorthy, 19-35.
In the Energia All Ireland Junior Cup Thomond and Newcastle West were in action. At Liam Fitzgerald Park today the home side put up a fighting display against Dromore who advanced to the next round with a 16-32 victory. Thomond started well and Jake Connolly scored an early try, converted by Jason Kiely. Dromore replied with a penaty but the home side struck again with a Kiely penalty kick to make it 10-3. Kian McGrath was sent to the bin and the visitors availed of the extra man to score two converted tries to go 10-17 in front.
Jason Kiely was in fine kicking form for Thomond and he landed two more penalties which brought the home side just one point adrift. With Sean Rice now shown yellow Dromore pushed on to score ten unanswered points and advance to the next round.
Newcastle West travelled to play Suttonians in the same competition and put up a fine performance before going down 36-18. It was 14-6 at half time with the West’s scores coming from a brace of Andrew Mortell penalties. The second half saw the Limerick side make a short come-back with tries from Sean Murphy and Cian Mulcahy one of which was converted by Mortell but the Dubliners scored two late tries to seal the result,
