‘The West’ have mixed experiences in the Junior League

Newcastle West 27, Richmond 22: NCW led at half time by three points, 10-7 thanks to a try by Sean Murphy and a cinversion an penalty. ?Richmond scored a convereted try early in the second half but the West rtook the lead when Cian Tierney got over for another fifve pointer which Airey converted.
On 61 minutes Richmond scored a try to put them 19-17 ahead. This cracker of a game continued with Shane Airey giving his side the lead once again with a penalty. In a welter of excitement Newcastle West were awarded a penalty when Sean Murphy was tripped by the opposing full-back in injury time, 27-22.
The previous week-end Mallow got the better of NCW 27-23, which was similarly close. Mallow scored a brace of converted tries in the first ten minutes, Shane Airey steadied the ship with two penalty kicks and in the second half tries by Gerald Griffin, Mark O’Meara and Daniel Normoyle got over the try line to set up a thrilling last few minutes. Airie’s conversion put the County Limerick side ahead 17-23 but when it looked that success had been achieved, Mallow got a converted try and a penalty to wing the game.
