Wins for Crescent, Thomond, Shannon in Cup games

IT was Munster Junior Cup time yesterday with local sides eager to advance to round four.

Here are the results to hand:

In the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup, third round, Shannon had a good win over Bandon on Cork soil, 10-25 and also in the same competition Old Crescent had a thrilling victory over local rivals Garryowen on a 24-17 scoreline. You have to go back to 1968 for St Mary’s only success in this junior cup and they will have to wait another season, going down against a strong Nenagh team by 17 points to 27 in Grove Island.

In other junior games this week-end there was a real thriller at the Canal Bank between rivals Richmond and Thomond. This time it was the Soda Cakes who snatched victory by a single point. In division two Abbeyfeale suffered a defeat, Charleville running out winners by 41-12.
