All the action from yesterday’s Energia All-Ireland games

IT was another dramatic weekend across the Energia All-Ireland League, with decisive results across the Men’s and Women’s Divisions and as the title races, promotion and relegation battles start to heat up, with one week to go until the winter break.
In Division 1A, UCD defeated Lansdowne 43-38 in an 11-try thriller at the Aviva back pitch. Max Doyle opened the scoring, Daniel Hurley struck twice, and Thomas Quinn added a crucial first-half stoppage-time try for the students. Evan Moynihan’s early second-half score gave UCD breathing room, while Lansdowne fought back through Bobby Sheehan, Jack Matthews, Greg McGrath, and Harry Van Eaden. James Kenny’s late try set up a frantic finale, but Ben Brownlee sealed the win, with Paddy Clancy kicking 18 points.
St. Mary’s kept up their title push with a 14-0 win over Ballynahinch, Ronan Watters scoring in each half with Mick O’Gara converting both. Cork Constitution moved to fifth with a 21-15 win at Old Belvedere, Danny Sheahan scoring twice early and David Good adding a 62nd minute try to confirm the points. Clontarf made it seven wins in a row with a 28-12 victory at Nenagh Ormond, Alex O’Grady, Alex Usanov, Sam Owens and a Penalty Try, helping them to a bonus point win.
Young Munster overcame Terenure 29-19, leading 22-0 at half-time, as Shay McCarthy crossed twice, along with scores from Luke McCready and Hubert Gilvarry, they survived a late rally as Aran Egan added two tries, and Caspar Gabriel crossed while also converting twice, a penalty try for The Cookies was a big difference maker in the second half.
In the Women’s Division, Railway Union defeated Ennis 60-3, Ailsa Hughes and Heidi Lyons setting the tone early, with captain Niamh Byrne and Ava Usanova both scoring twice. UL Bohemian defeated Tullow 102-7, with 16 tries, including braces for Aoife Corey, Sinead Hogg, Lily Brady, Aoibhe O’Flynn, Ciara McLoughlin, and Eabha Nic Dhonnacha. Blackrock beat Galwegians 29-5, Wicklow ended a losing streak with 41-12 at Ballincollig, and Old Belvedere overcame Cooke 31-17 at home.
In Division 1B, leaders Old Wesley had nine try scorers in a 63-5 win over Queen’s University, while second-placed Instonians defeated Blackrock College 42-18, with Bradley McNamara, Neil Saulters, and Oli Clark all scoring twice. Highfield came from behind late on to beat Dublin University 26-19, and City Of Armagh moved into third with a 34-24 win at UCC.
Division 2A saw MU Barnhall come from behind late on to defeat Greystones 31-24, Dungannon overturned an 18-3 deficit in the second half to beat Old Crescent 20-18, and Galway Corinthians recovered from 9-0 down to defeat Cashel 10-9. Wanderers moved to fifth with a 25-22 win over Shannon, while Ballymena vs Banbridge was abandoned due to injury.
In 2B, Galwegians extended their winning run to eight with a 24-3 win at Navan. Malone snatched a 30-29 home win over UL Bohemian with a last-minute penalty from Ben Gibson. Clogher Valley beat Skerries 28-10, Sligo won 42-12 at Enniscorthy, Matthew Earley and Mark McGlynn crossing twice, and Buccaneers recorded back to back wins defeating Rainey 15-7.
Finally, in 2C, Clonmel prevailed in their Munster derby with Bruff 22-20 with a late penalty try. Belfast Harlequins beat Bective Rangers 24-13, Ballyclare won a bottom-of-the-table clash with Malahide 21-8, and Monkstown defeated Dolphin 29-13 at home. Thomond vs Midleton was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
