Toulon snatch last minute victory over Munster

Toulon 27, Munster 25

AFTER a thrilling second half, Toulon snatched a late score to grab a victory in today’s Investec Champions Cup pool game. Munster had fought back from a deficit of 14-6 after 44 minutes after trailing by a single point at half time, 7-6, a brace of Jack Crowley penalty kicks giving them a 6-0 lead while Toulon replied with a converted try by Marius Domon who also added the cinversion. Munster had most of the possession in the first half after a shaky start and despite Tadhg Beirne being sent to the bin, they showed courageous defence qualities.

With the home supporters increasing the noise, Toulon went into a 14-6 lead when scrum half Ben White darted over and Marius Domon converted. The Munster supporters were on their feet minutes later when Calvin Nash sped sped down the right flank to score at the other end to touch down unopposed and Crowley’s conversion gave the visitors a single advantage, 13-14, with 46 minutes played. Toulon replied again with Gael Drean cutting the Munster defence and Marius Domon again converted. Munster again showed that their ‘stand up and fight’ abilities and after, further tries from Jack O’Donoghue and Tom Farrell edged Munster into a single point lead but in the last minutes Toulon edged a single point home, full back Marius Domon becoming the hero of the day for the French side with a penalty kick.
