Newcastle West and Thomond advance in Junior Cup

TWO local clubs were in action over the week-end and both advanced in the Munster Junior Cup.
Thomond 54, St Senan’s 31: The early stages of this game were closely competed but Thomond went on a late scoring spree. A penalty try was the first score in favour of Thomond and a Pa Ryan try, converted by Evan Cusack increased the lead to 14-0. Senan’s replied with a converted try and a penalty to make it 14-10 but tries by Evan Cusack, Pa Ryan and two from Luke Costelloe gave the home side a 47-10 advantage. Senan’s then scored a converted try but two more Thomond tries, one each from Aidan Quinlivan and Kian McGrath, put the result to bed.
Newcastle West 33, Old Christians 12: The ‘West’ kept up their good form with a deserved victory over the Cork side and they will now meet Thomond in the quarter final next week.
Newcastle’s scores came from tries in the first half from Shane Breen, Pauge Rock and Julian Bell and in the second half their scorers were TJ Relihan and Liam Tracey while Shane Airey was in good kicking form, helping to bring the finishing score to 33 points.
